ABOUT “CHICAGO”

In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal.

Saturday, March 2 @ 2 p.m.

Sunday, March 3 @ 2 p.m.

PERFORMANCES:

July 31 – August 17

Wednesdays through Saturdays – 8:00 p.m.

Performances will be held at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

REHEARSALS:

Rehearsals begin early May. Please bring all known conflicts for May-June. Conflicts in July-August will NOT be honored.

ABOUT THE AUDITION PROCESS:

*Performers need only attend ONE of the open audition dates.

*Each audition date will begin with a dance call. All performers will be required to attend the dance/movement call. Please come prepared to move  and bring jazz shoes/character shoes.

*Vocal auditions will be seen following dance call each night. You will have time to rest between the dance call and the vocals.

*Please prepare your best 32 bars of a Broadway song, preferably in the style of the show (vaudeville). Be sure to bring sheet music with you in the appropriate key. You may also sing selections from the show.  An accompanist will be provided. CD’s, mp3’s or recorded tracks of any kind are not permitted in this audition. ABSOLUTELY NO ACAPELLA

*Auditions will be conducted at SUPER SUMMER THEATRE STUDIOS, 4340 S Valley View Blvd #204, Las Vegas, NV 89103 – South of the Rio Resort and Casino.

*Sign-in will begin 30 minutes prior to each call time

*Please bring headshot and resume to the audition.

*Callbacks will be BY INVITATION ONLY and will be held on March 9 & 10 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm.

*All roles are available for performers AGES 18 AND UP.

*The philosophy of Majestic Repertory Theatre is to reflect the wide diversity of our Las Vegas community in our productions.

*There is no pay, however all performers will receive a small stipend.

CASTING BREAKDOWN:

VELMA KELLY: Female, 25-40 (Range: Alto, E3-D5)

Vaudeville performer who is accused of murdering her sister and husband. Hardened by fame, she cares for no one but herself and her attempt to get away with murder.

ROXIE HART: Female, 20-30 (Range: Mezzo-Soprano, F3-B4)

Reads and keeps up with murder trials in Chicago, and follows suit by murdering her lover, Fred Casely. She stops at nothing to render a media storm with one goal: to get away with it.

AMOS HART: Male, 30-50 (Range: Baritone, C3-F#4)

Roxie’s faithful husband. Lies for her and tries to take the blame until he realizes that he has been two-timed by Roxie. Still in love with her, or misguided, he believes anything she says in her pursuit to get out of jail.

MATRON “MAMA” MORTON: Female, 30-50 (Range: Alto, F#3-Bb4)

Leader of the prisoners of Cook County Jail. The total essence of corruption. Accepts bribes for favors from laundry service to making calls to lawyers. “When you’re good to Mama, Mama’s good to you.”

BILLY FLYNN: Male, 35-50 (Range: Baritone Bb2-G4)

Established lawyer who hasn’t lost a woman’s case yet. Master of media manipulation who will get a girl off the hook as long as she can fork up the hefty $5,000 fee.

MARY SUNSHINE: Male, 25-55 (Range: Soprano, Bb3-Bb5)

Sob sister reporter from the Evening Star. Believes there is a little bit of good in everyone and will believe anything she is fed that matches her beliefs.

ENSEMBLE: 7 Men, 6 Women (Range: A3 – C#5)

Dynamic dancers, play multiple roles including Fred Casely, Cell Block Tango Girls, Go To Hell Kitty, Judge, Prosecutor, Etc.
